Splitting hairs:  How John Edwards can remain my mane man

Wed Apr 18, 2007 at 11:03:32 AM PDT

I can barely afford a haircut at all, and certainly not a $400.00 one, but I do not begrudge Sen. Edwards the pricey cut he got from Joseph Torrenueva of Beverly Hills.
Hell, it was a bargain when you compare it to  Laura Bush's $700.00 haircuts, which we probably pay for involuntarily thru our taxes.

I can understand how grooming is a legitimate campaign expense, and even imagine how it ended up in the column it did, but the haircut had the opposite effect it was intended to have.

This haircut didn't make John Edwards look good.

It also provides ammunition for the Coulters of the world and other campaigns for to resume their Swish-Boating, and makes you wonder about the saavy of a staff that would let this slip by.

Nevermind the $1671.00  John McCain spent on flowers.
Those were probably the long awaited flowers our troops were promiced when they got to Iraq, and Sen. McCain just got around to delivering them on his recent shopping trip over there.

The press, and especially Arianna over at the HuffObama Post are having a good time carrying Matt Drudge's water for him.
I'm sure Ms Huffington would never dream of spending the kind of money Mr. Edwards does on cosmetics.

To make us all feel better that John Edwards is not using our contributions to enhance his electability or to facilitate a hectic  schedule, I have written to suggest he consider reimbursing his campaign coffers out of his ample personal funds.
Other ideas I offered were:

ask his stylist to refund the cost of his services, and that it be more appropriately entered as an in-kind donation.

Have the stylist collect the fallen locks and auction them off with proceeds going to a worthy cause or better yet, the campaign.

Or wear  a fedora, like poor Matt Drudge has to.

You folks got any ideas how he ought to handle this?

Maybe it's nothing and will blow over?

That would be better than a comb over, I guess.

Update:  I wish whoever added the "hitpiece" tag would explain in the comments how they came to that conclusion.  This was intended as snark, and other than saying "this haircut does not make John Edwards look good," I can't imagine who was "hit" other than Drudge, McCain, Laura Bush, and possibly HuffPost.  JRE is a hero to me, and his hair reminds me of another hero, RFK.  You don't put a price on that.

I have been told, after haircut disasters of my own, that the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is two weeks.

I sure hope that's true.
